Barren River Fest

The first Saturday in August every year at Barren River Lake is the date set aside for a long running tradition....Poker Run. This year’s event has a new name but it is the same great event. Poker Run is now called Barren River Fest. The event will be held on Saturday, August 2nd from 12 till 4 pm. This year's event is sponsored by Barren River Boat Shop and Superior Docks. The event will kick off at Barren River Lake State Park. Participants will check in under the big white tent. Participants are encouraged to pre-register now online at friendsofbarrenriverlake.com. By pre-registering, participants will save time in line and will also save $5 per poker hand purchased. At check in, participants will receive their first poker card out of 5 to be collected during the event. In no particular order, participants will visit the following check point locations at Barren River Lake to retrieve their additional cards for their poker hand. The check points include The Narrows Marina, The Peninsula Marina, Port Oliver, and Walnut Creek Marina. You can visit these checkpoints by land travel or by boat. All participants will need to report back to Barren River Lake State park before 4 pm to have their sealed envelopes opened to reveal their hand. The winning hand of the day will win $500. Second Place prize is $250 and $100 for third place. This event is the biggest fundraiser that helps the Friends of Barren River Lake non-profit group raise funds for the annual Fireworks event each year. Cell signal can be a little patchy at the State Park so please bring cash for the number of hands that you wish to purchase.
